DOGS ARE BACK ON MORECAMBE'S BEACHES
Morecambe's two bathing beaches hold a Seaside Award, and the price of it is a summer without dogs! From 1st May to 30th September each year they are kept off the North and South beaches, with a £100 fixed penalty for anyone who ignores it.
That ended on Thursday 1st October. Dogs are allowed back on both beaches until the end of April 2027, at any hour, for nothing. Lancaster City Council's reminder comes with one condition: on the promenade, in the gardens beside it and on Sunny Slopes, dogs stay on a lead.
The ban only ever covered those two stretches. The shore from the Battery down to Heysham, and from the Green Street breakwater up to Hest Bank, is open to dogs all year.

An update on last week's lead. The appeal to repair the King's Guide's tractors stood at £1,430 from 42 donations on Tuesday morning, up from £1,385. The target is £5,000. GoFundMe

ONE GOOD THING

Morecambe's pubs have gone pink this week.
Bra on the Bar runs until Sunday in thirteen pubs and venues across the town. It raises awareness of breast and chest cancer, and money for CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria. It is the idea of local campaigner Vicki Edwards, and the thinking is simple: a bit of fun and silliness to get people talking about something serious.
Every venue has a collection box and leaflets on knowing your normal and spotting the possible signs, with information from Breast Cancer Now. Several bars are adding fundraising of their own. On Saturday, look out for Vicki and Hayley from CancerCare doing the rounds in pink tutus.
Taking part: The Pier Hotel, Soul Bowl, Morecambe's Palatine, The Bull Hotel on Fisherman's Square, The Chieftain Hotel, The Royal Bar & Shaker, the Crown Hotel, Harry's Bar, The York, O'Nellys, Brittlestar Wine Bar, The Pestle & Mortar and The Hurley Flyer.
Pop in, take a photo with the bras and share it. And save the date: the Big Bra Chain comes to the promenade on Saturday 24th October.
